  • Accessibility Mats

After about 4 years with the Accessibility Advisory committee (AAC), I am proud to have been a part of getting accessibility mats installed at the beach in Port Dover.

This took a year of work to accomplish. First as a committee we applied for a grant in July of 2016 for the accessibility mats. After this, also in July of that year (July 5th, 2016) our local council approved a recommendation to support this initiative.

Following this, on August 16th, 2016 the committee ranked this project #3 among the projects proposed for that year’s budget deliberations for the county. Then, in October 2016 during the yearly budget deliberations a motion was passed to have this project removed from the budget.

After hearing the news of the removal of this project from the budget, January 10th, 2017, the committee started working on a deputation to put the accessibility mats back into the budget for this same year. After working on this as a committee, I was part of the deputation that made a presentation to our council on January 23rd, 2017 for the beach access in Port Dover, where it was approved to be completed in 2017.

The ribbon cutting for the project took place in Port Dover on June 9th, 2017.
